Terms of Use
These terms are an agreement between you and Appstract Studio ("Shyn", "we", "us") for the Shyn app and website. Products you buy through the app are sold by Greymark Studio Limited — section 4 explains which company you are dealing with for what. By creating an account or using Shyn you agree to these terms. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.
Shyn is not medical advice. Scores, routines, ingredient checks and Sage's replies are cosmetic guidance generated by software. They are not a diagnosis and are not a substitute for a doctor or dermatologist. If you have a skin condition, a reaction, or any concern about your health, see a professional.
1. Who can use Shyn
You must be at least 16 years old and able to enter a binding agreement. You are responsible for keeping your account secure and for everything done with it.
2. Your account
You can use Shyn without signing in — your scans and routine are kept on your device's guest account. Signing in with Apple or Google saves that history and moves it to a new phone. Give us accurate information and keep it up to date. You can delete your account at any time from Profile → Privacy & data.
3. What Shyn does
Shyn analyses photos of your face to produce skin scores, suggests a routine based on your quiz answers and scans, checks ingredient lists for clashes, finds similar products, and lets you buy products through the app. Results depend on photo quality, lighting and the information you give us, and will vary between scans. We work to improve accuracy but do not guarantee any result.
4. Who you are contracting with
Two companies sit behind Shyn, and which one you are dealing with depends on what you are paying for.
- Appstract Studio, a company registered in the United Kingdom, publishes the Shyn app and provides the app itself — scans, reports, routines, ingredient analysis and Sage. Premium subscriptions are sold through the App Store under this company.
- Greymark Studio Limited, a company registered in Hong Kong, sells you the physical products you order through the app and takes payment for them. Card payments for product orders appear on your statement as SHYN.APP.
"Shyn", "we" and "us" in these terms mean whichever of the two is responsible for the thing being described. Both are bound by these terms and you can raise any issue with either of them at the address in section 17.
5. Shyn Premium subscriptions
- Some features, including full scan reports, require a Shyn Premium subscription.
- Premium is offered weekly (US$4.99 per week, with an introductory first week at US$0.99 where available) and yearly (US$49.99 per year). Prices are shown in your local currency in the App Store before you buy and may change; changes never apply to a period you have already paid for.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically at the same price and period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- You can manage or cancel your subscription in your Apple ID settings (Settings → your name → Subscriptions). Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- Refunds for subscriptions are handled by Apple under its terms. We cannot issue App Store refunds ourselves.
- Any free or introductory period is forfeited if you upgrade to a paid plan before it ends, where applicable.
6. Buying products through Shyn
- Products you order in the app are sold to you by Greymark Studio Limited. Greymark is the seller and merchant of record: it charges your card, it is responsible for your order, and it is who you deal with if anything goes wrong.
- We hold no stock of our own. Your order is fulfilled by a US retailer and shipped directly to the address you gave us, so their packaging and delivery times apply, and the manufacturer's product warranty is unaffected. None of that changes who is responsible to you: we are. See section 7.
- We deliver to addresses in the United States only. You can use the rest of the app from anywhere, but orders cannot be shipped elsewhere.
- A basket containing items from more than one retailer becomes more than one order, which may arrive separately and may not all succeed. You are only ever charged for the items actually ordered.
- Risk of loss or damage passes to you when the order is delivered to your address.
- Prices shown in the app are estimates and can change before your order is confirmed.
- Because the final price is only settled when your order is confirmed, we place a hold on your card for slightly more than the estimate rather than charging you straight away. We then take only what the order actually came to, and the rest of the hold is released. If the price rises above the hold, or the item is out of stock, the order is not placed and the whole hold is released — you are not charged.
- Payment for physical products is taken by card, never through your Apple ID. Subscriptions work the other way round: always through Apple, never by card.
- Product recommendations and "dupes" are our opinion based on ingredient data. Check the product's own label and ingredient list before buying.
7. Refunds, returns and cancellations
This section covers physical products, which Greymark Studio Limited sells you. Subscription refunds are handled by Apple and are covered in section 5.
- Before your order is placed. Nothing has been charged yet — only held. Contact us and we will cancel it and release the hold. Holds are released by your bank, which can take a few working days to show on your statement.
- An order that could not be placed. If the price moved above your hold or the item went out of stock, no order exists and no money was taken. The hold is released automatically.
- Changed your mind, after it shipped. Tell us within 30 days of delivery and we will arrange the return and refund what you paid for the item once it has been received back unopened and in its original packaging. Return postage on a change-of-mind return is yours; we pay it when the item was faulty, damaged or not what you ordered.
- Damaged, faulty or wrong items. Tell us within 30 days of delivery, with a photo where the problem is visible, and we will replace or refund it at no cost to you.
- Opened cosmetics. For hygiene reasons skincare that has been opened or used cannot usually be returned, unless it was faulty or not what you ordered. Nothing here affects your statutory consumer rights.
- Refunds go back to the card you paid with. We do not charge a restocking fee.
To start any of the above, email hello@appstract.studio with your order number.
8. Beta features
While Shyn is in beta, features may change, break or be removed. Data logged during the beta may be reset if we change how a feature works. We will tell you in the app before that happens.
9. Acceptable use
Do not upload photos of anyone other than yourself without their consent, try to break or reverse-engineer the service, scrape it, use it to build a competing dataset, or use it in a way that is unlawful. We may suspend or close accounts that do.
10. Your content
You own the photos and information you give Shyn. You grant us a licence to store and process them only to provide the service to you, as described in the Privacy Policy. Delete a scan or your account and that licence ends.
11. Our content
The Shyn app, its design, scores, text and software are ours or our licensors'. You may use them for your personal, non-commercial use of the app and nothing else.
12. Disclaimers and liability
Shyn is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude all warranties and are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for any loss arising from reliance on scores, recommendations or chat replies. Our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing here limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including for death, personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud, and nothing affects your statutory consumer rights.
13. Apple
These terms are between you and us, not Apple. Apple has no obligation to provide maintenance or support for Shyn. We are solely responsible for any warranty for the app, whether express or implied; if the app fails to conform to any warranty that applies, you may notify Apple and Apple will refund what you paid for the app, and to the maximum extent the law allows Apple has no other warranty obligation at all. Apple is not responsible for any claim relating to the app, including product liability, legal compliance or intellectual property claims. Apple and its subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms and may enforce them against you. You confirm you are not in a country subject to a US Government embargo and are not on any US Government list of prohibited parties.
14. Ending the agreement
You can stop using Shyn and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms or if we discontinue the service, with notice where reasonably possible. Sections 10 to 15 survive termination.
15. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that consumers in other countries keep the protection of their local mandatory laws and courts.
16. Changes
We may update these terms. If a change is material we will tell you in the app at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use Shyn after that means you accept the new terms.
